Denise Recommends:
Brazilian Red Cloak (Megaskepasma erythrochlamys)

Growth habit: 8-12' tall x 4-6' wide; upright
Ideal Spot: Morning sun to dappled shade; rich, moist, well-drained soil
Uses: Background shrub in mixed borders; butterfly gardens

A large, stunning shrub that never fails to get noticed when it is in bloom. Its 12" long, scarlet flower spikes last and last from autumn through to mid- or late spring. Huge, light green, tropical-looking foliage makes an attractive background for its border companions year-round when positioned where it is protected from cold north winds of winter, ideally in morning sun to dappled shade. Butterflies love these beautiful flowers too. Hardy to approx 25 degrees F. May need some protection on our coldest nights.
